Yes, when the kitchen is set up for it, and ours on Beards Hill Road is. Aberdeen sits at a useful point on the map: two minutes off I-95 at exit 85, close to Aberdeen Proving Ground, and roughly halfway between Baltimore and the Delaware line. That combination means we serve two very different people. Harford County families who were driving to Baltimore for halal, and travelers who have learned the hard way that the I-95 corridor is not generous with halal options. Here is what actually makes hibachi halal.
What makes hibachi halal or not
Hibachi describes how the food is cooked, not what it is made of. So the question is really about the restaurant, and the honest answer for most hibachi restaurants is no. Here is where they fail.
Sourcing.Halal starts with the supplier. Chicken, beef and lamb have to be slaughtered to halal standard, and a restaurant either has that paperwork or it does not.
The shared grill. Most hibachi kitchens run one flat top for everything on the menu. If pork is on that menu, it has been on that surface. Wiping it down between orders is not the same thing as never cooking pork at all.
The sauces.Teriyaki, eel sauce and a lot of house yum yum are made with mirin or sake. It is the most commonly missed detail in halal dining, because diners check the protein and stop there.
Flame was set up so none of that applies. The full menu is halal, top to bottom. No pork comes through the door, which means the grill has one job. Sauces are made in our own kitchen instead of bought from a distributor, so we know what is in them.
Ask those three questions anywhere else you eat hibachi: where does the meat come from, is pork cooked here, and is there mirin in the sauce.
At our Aberdeen location
We are at 939 Beards Hill Rd, Aberdeen, MD 21001, in the Beards Hill corridor just off Route 22 and about two minutes from I-95 exit 85. Ripken Stadium is close, Aberdeen Proving Ground is a short run, and Havre de Grace, Churchville, Bel Air, Edgewood and Perryville are all inside twenty minutes.
Hours are Monday through Saturday 11AM to 10PM and Sunday 11AM to 9PM. Holiday hours can shift around Eid and the major public holidays, so the Google Business Profile is worth a look before a long drive.
Two things about this store worth knowing. The APG workforce, both service members and contractors, uses it heavily at lunch, and ordering ahead is the difference between a five-minute stop and a twenty-minute one. And if you are driving I-95, we are one of the very few halal kitchens between Baltimore and the Delaware line that is not a gas station.
Getting here, and the towns we serve
Beards Hill Road sits about two minutes from I-95 exit 85, which shapes who walks through the door. Aberdeen and Havre de Grace are minutes away. Churchville, Bel Air and Edgewood are inside fifteen to twenty. Perryville is a short run over the Susquehanna, and Aberdeen Proving Ground is close enough for a lunch break to work.
If you are driving the corridor between Baltimore and Delaware, we are one of the few halal kitchens on that stretch that is a proper restaurant rather than a convenience stop.
Everything is cooked to order, which is the point, but it means a walk-in at peak will wait. If you are travelling, order online while you are still twenty minutes out and collect it hot without stopping for long. That is exactly how most of our I-95 customers use this location, and it works.
What to order in Aberdeen
Chicken Hibachi, $9.85. Under ten dollars, two sides included, ready fast. The lunch default here.
Chicken Tenders Combo, 4 pieces with fries and a drink, $12.99. The order for anyone eating in a car, and halal tenders are not easy to find in Harford County.
Chicken, Beef and Shrimp Combo, $14.85. For the drive home rather than the drive through.
Mango Passion Fruit Tea, $6.25. The boba menu is a genuine surprise to most first-time visitors.
How the plates are built: every hibachi comes with your choice of any two sides — fried rice, white rice, lo mein noodles or vegetables. Bento boxes arrive loaded already, with hibachi, vegetables, rice or noodles, a 4-piece California Roll, two dumplings and two spring rolls. Extra chicken is $2.95 and extra salmon, beef or shrimp is $3.95, which is usually the cheapest way to stretch one plate across two people. Individual sides run $2.95 to $4.95, and Yum Yum sauce is $0.50.
For an APG lunch break, the chicken hibachi with fried rice and vegetables is the fastest full plate on the menu. If you are eating in the car on I-95, the tenders combo and the bento both travel better than an open plate does.
