Yes, and in Prince George's County that is a question people know how to ask properly. Bowie sits in a part of Maryland where halal dining is not a novelty, and residents here have learned to ask about the supplier before they ask about the price. What Bowie has had less of is halal Japanese. You can eat halal across several cuisines within a few miles of Crain Highway, and almost none of those kitchens are running a hibachi flat top. We are at 3548 Crain Hwy. Here is what actually decides whether hibachi is halal, and how ours is built.
The three things that decide it
Hibachi is a cooking method. It describes a flat steel grill and nothing else, which means the word carries no halal status of its own. Whether the plate in front of you qualifies comes down to three decisions the restaurant made long before you walked in.
The meat supplier. Halal chicken, beef and lamb come from suppliers who slaughter to halal standard and can produce the paperwork. This is a purchasing decision that costs more per pound, which is the single most common reason hibachi restaurants skip it.
What else touches the grill. A hibachi kitchen runs on one large flat top. If pork is on the menu, pork has been cooked on the same steel as your dinner, and wiping it down does not resolve that for anyone who takes halal seriously.
What is in the sauces. Mirin and cooking sake are standard in commercial teriyaki and eel sauce. A halal chicken breast finished with a mirin glaze is not a halal plate. This is the step most diners never think to check, and the one most kitchens cannot answer.
Flame answers all three the same way in Bowie and at every other location. The entire menu is halal. Pork is not served, stored or cooked anywhere on the property. Our sauces are made in our own kitchen rather than bought from a distributor, which is what lets us tell you what is in them.
Those are the three questions worth putting to any hibachi restaurant in Prince George's County: the supplier, the grill and the sauce. Most cannot clear all three.
At our Bowie location
We are at 3548 Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD 20716, on the US 301 run through town. Crain Highway is the spine of this part of Bowie, which makes us a stop on the way home rather than a destination you have to plan around. Bowie Town Center is minutes away. Route 50 puts Annapolis, Lanham and the Beltway all within a short drive, and Bowie State University is close enough that students make up a real share of the weeknight counter.
Hours are 11AM to 10PM, seven days a week.
Two patterns drive this store. Weeknight family pickup, where a bento or two plus a shared platter covers dinner without anyone cooking, and weekend group orders built around wings.
Fall on Crain Highway
September changes the rhythm here. School is back, Bowie State is in session, football season has started at every level from high school through the pros, and the weeknight dinner window compresses into the hour between practice and homework.
That shift shows up in what people order. Through the summer, the single hibachi plate carries most weeknights. From September on, the order sizes go up and the timing gets tighter. Bento boxes travel to sidelines. Wing counts move from ten pieces to thirty. The 5PM to 7PM pickup window gets dense.
If you are working around a practice schedule this fall, ordering ahead is the difference between a ten minute stop and a twenty five minute one. Everything is cooked when the ticket lands, so a pre-order means you are collecting rather than waiting.
What to order in Bowie
Chicken Hibachi, $10.85. Hibachi chicken with your choice of any two sides. The baseline order, and the one that decides whether you come back.
Chicken and Beef Bento, $14.85. Hibachi, vegetables, rice or noodles, a 4-piece California Roll, dumplings and spring rolls, in a box built to travel. The practical order if dinner is happening in a car or on a field.
Chicken, Beef and Shrimp Combo, $15.85. Three proteins on one plate with two sides. The order that feeds two people who do not want to argue about it.
20-Piece Wings, $28.99. Fourteen flavors, including Old Bay, Rim Fire and Mango Habanero. The group order.
Green Dragon Roll, $10.85. Halal sushi that stands on its own rather than existing as a side.
Brown Sugar Milk Tea, $7.49. Ten boba toppings available, including crystal boba and coffee jelly.
How the plates are built: every hibachi comes with any two sides, chosen from fried rice, white rice, lo mein noodles or vegetables. Extra chicken is $3.45 and extra salmon, beef or shrimp is $4.45, which is usually the cheapest way to stretch one plate across two people. Yum Yum sauce is $1.00.
